IRIS collects data about the strains causing respiratory infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae in real time. Participating reference laboratories are requested to submit details of all isolates causing disease enabling data to be shared for comparison.

The IRIS data collection resides as a private project within the PubMLST S. pneumoniae database. Access is restricted to designated members of participating reference laboratories.
